In 1986, Mr. Sanders formed Asset Business Appraisal to help small business owners (under $20 million revenue) in determining the true market value of their businesses. He has appraised a wide variety of types of businesses and has given exert witness testimony many times. He has been an active full time business intermediary since 1985. He has personally handled over 148 business transfers and has appraised over 1,600 businesses. His focus has been on manufacturing, wholesale/distribution and business to business service businesses. Prior to entering the business intermediary profession, Mr. Sanders was President and Chief Executive Officer of the PACIFIC ENGINEERS' Companies, an engineering firm whose operations had over 250 employees in four subsidiaries and covered seven states, primarily providing engineered facilities to local and federal governmental agencies. Performs business valuations (intangible asset appraisal) for marriage and partnership dissolutions, minority stockholders interests, estate planning, acquisition analysis, litigation, etc. Have performed to date 146 appraisals totaling over $121 million in appraised value. Serves as intermediary between buyers and sellers. Developed personal marketing plan to solicit business owners considering the sale of their businesses. Plan included data base development, the development of brochures, direct mail, cold calling, personal contact, etc. Also developed a computerized business valuation program using eight different methods of valuation. The campaign resulted in listing over 325 businesses, totaling over $105 million in ranging value from $65,000 to $4.5 million. I evaluated over 900 business of various types from retail to light manufacturing. As of December 1998, 65 business transfers totaling $17 million have been completed.

Managed General Engineering Construction Company with contracts in six Western States and affiliated operations in San Diego. Estimated and managed projects, trained and reviewed employees, served as liaison with accountants, lawyers, bank officials, bonding companies, etc.

As a Business Appraiser, Mr. Bates brings to his clients a unique combination of professional appraisal, financial analysis skills, and, above all, actual transaction experience.  He is qualified by virtue of his more than 15 years' experience as a mergers and acquisitions and business brokerage professional, where intimate knowledge of complex fair market value factors is essential in negotiating successful transactions between knowledgeable buyers and sellers of small to midsize businesses.  

In addition to personally participating in more than 250 transactions, involving private and public companies, Mr. Bates has completed more than 500 valuation and advisory engagements, including fairness opinions, economic and business analysis and litigation support.  He has valued a broad range of businesses, including agriculture, distribution, food services, technology, manufacturing and retailing.  He has testified at trial, and has been qualified as an expert witness on matters involving fair market value, business valuation, community property business assets, such as family businesses and professional and medical practices.  

Mr. Bates' background and related experience includes serving as Managing Director for RSM EquiCo Capital Markets, LLC, an international investment banking firm specializing in the valuation and sale of privately held middle-market companies; a Registered Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley; and founder/president of a nationally recognized business brokerage firm specializing in the sale of small to mid size companies.
